Information on Lift Chairs or Medical Lift Recliners

What is a Lift Chair?

Lift chairs are chairs that feature a powered lifting mechanism that pushes the entire chair up from its base and so assists the user to a standing position. Lift Chair is a piece of medical equipment that looks similar to a standard reclining chair. It can be used in an upright position, or reclined with just the push of a button. The difference is that the Lift Chair contains a powerful lifting system which can be triggered to tilt the base and back of the chair forward, assisting the user in returning to a standing position. The user operates a Lift Chair by pushing buttons on a remote rather than manually engaging a lever or switch.

There are a number of different names used to describe Lift Chairs. You may see them marketed as “Power Lift Recliners”, “Pop-Up Chairs, “3-Position Recliners”, or “Infinite Position Recliners”, but each of these terms refers to the same type of device.

Lift Chairs are available in a variety of sizes and styles, with numerous optional features. Available in small to large widths, petite to tall heights, cloth, vinyl, or even leather upholstery, and with options including number of positions available, heat, and massage, Lift Chairs can be customized to suit your specific needs.

Who Benefits from a Lift Chair?

Lift Chairs are ideal solutions for anybody who has difficulty transitioning from a seated position to standing due to limited mobility or balance issues. However, the benefits extend far beyond assistance simply sitting down and standing up.

With optional heat and massage features, Lift Chairs provide therapeutic benefits to those with stiff and sore joints, back pain, arthritis, and a variety of other conditions. They provide excellent, affordable alternatives to expensive bathtub modifications for those who require heat and massage therapy.

Lift Chairs can be used for more than just reclining while watching your favorite television programs. Whether you like to use a computer or telephone, read books or magazines, or engage in a number of other recreational activities, the variety of positions available from your lift chair can comfortably accommodate. Many individuals even opt to sleep in their Lift Chairs rather than in their beds because of the variety of positions available. Most models can be reclined to a flat position, but can also be modified to different angles and elevations for maximum comfort.  For individuals who must keep their legs elevated while they sit or sleep, Lift Chairs are an ideal solution.

Even individuals who have had surgery in their shoulders, arms, or other areas can benefit from a lift chair.

Lift Chair Position Guide

2-Position
TV Recline
The 2-position TV recline is achievable on all Lift Chairs. This is a comfortable position for performing many relaxing activities including reading, watching TV, working on your tablet or for conversation with family and friends.

3-Position
Full Recline
The 3-position full recline is available on most Lift Chair models and puts you in a position ideal for napping or relaxing.

Infinite-Position
Sleep Recline
The infinite-position sleep recline is perfect for taking a nap - whether quick or extended - or even for a full night's sleep. Infinite-position Lift Chairs enable the backrest and footrest to move independently from one another so that a variety of positions can be reached.

Trendelenburg Position
The Trendelenburg position, available on the elevates one's feet higher than his or her head for increased comfort and relaxation.

Zero-Gravity Position
The zero-gravity position, which can be reached on infinite-position Lift Chair models, positions one's thighs and lower legs higher than his or her torso.

Two Way or Two Position Lift Chairs

A Two Position Lift Chair is limited to a slight recline of about 45°, and can recline to any position in-between straight and reclined making it technically not limited to just two-positions. Two Position Lift Chairs are perfect for those who don’t need a full recline.

2 Position Lift Chair

2 Position Lift Chair in Vinyl Fabric

Three Way or Three Position Lift Chairs

A Three Position Lift Chair can almost reach a full recline (it does not achieve a perfect horizontal line, there is a slight "V" where the back and seat meet) and can recline to any position in-between straight and its fully reclined position.

3 Position Lift Chair

3 Position Lift Chair in Rosewood Color

Infinite Position

An Infinite Position Lift Chair is capable of achieving a fully reclined position. Infinite position lift chairs have dual motors, one for the back and one for the legs, which allows for an "infinite" amount of positions that can be achieved and also allow the user to have their feet higher than the heart.

Where can you get a Lift Chair?

There are many places to purchase a lift chair, but we recommend working with a professional to determine the best type. With the wide range of sizes, features, and designs, the options can become overwhelming and you may end up with a Lift Chair that does not suit your needs adequately.

An expert can work with you to determine more than just the right color to suit your decor – he or she will ask questions such as:

  • Do you frequently eat or drink in the chair? If so, vinyl or leather upholstery may be ideal as it will be easier to clean

  • Do you have a pet that will be sitting in the chair with you? If so, you may require a wider width to accommodate both you and your furry friend

  • Will you be sleeping in your chair? If so, comfort is extremely important – some companies even offer mattresses compatible with lift chairs to maximize your comfort level through the night

  • Will you be spending extended periods of time in your Lift Chair, or will it be used only for relaxation and watching television? For limited-use, a two-position Lift Chair may be adequate. For long periods of use, a 3-position or infinite-position Lift Chair may be preferable to ensure comfort over long periods of time

  • What is your weight? Lift Chairs are designed to handle a wide range of weight thresholds, so finding one to suit your specific needs is imperative to ensure your safety while using the device

  • Do you currently have a favorite reclining chair that the Lift Chair will be replacing? If so, information about your current chair can help the specialist choose a Lift Chair with similar features to make your transition as comfortable as possible

  • How much space do you have for the Lift Chair? Some units occupy more space, while others are designed to be more compact and can be placed close to the walls to prevent them from obstructing your living area

  • Will you need the Lift Chair permanently, or only temporarily? Many companies offer Lift Chairs for rental use while recovering from a surgery or visiting a relative

Different Kind of Wrist Braces, Wrist Splints and Wrist Supports carried at Primo Medical Supplies in San Antonio

Your wrist is the joint between the two bones of the lower arm (radius and ulna) and the five bones of the hand and is made up of eight carpal bones. The muscles and tendons attached to all these bones allow you to rotate your wrist, as if screwing in a light bulb, and bend and flex your wrist, as if bouncing a basketball. Because of the complexity and frequent use of the wrist joint, injuries are common.

PROLITE® 8" WRIST SPLINT
Breathable foam material with a low contour at palmar crease to provide full finger dexterity and hand use. Removable palmar stay and side stays give maximum support and immobilization. Loop lock closures. Specify right or left.

PROLITE® 8" WRIST SPLINT

PROLITE® AIRFLOW 8" WRIST BRACE
Breathable mesh material for increased comfort. Contoured metal palmar stay and dorsal stays prevent flexion and extension. Low profile. Easy, one-hand application. Specify right or left.

PROLITE® AIRFLOW 8" WRIST BRACE

PROLITE® WRIST SPLINT WITH ABDUCTED THUMB
Recommended when immobilization of the wrist and/or thumb is needed. Semi-rigid thumb spica portion is contoured to provide intimate support, immobilization and thumb abduction. The unique design protects the thumb from impact or shock without any uncomfortable binding or stitch seams. The splint has a metal palmar and dorsal stay to prevent flexion and extension. Loop lock closures allow for quick and easy one-handed application.

PROLITE® WRIST SPLINT WITH ABDUCTED THUMB

PROLITE® AIRFLOW 8" WRIST SPLINT WITH ABDUCTED THUMB
Recommended when immobilization of the wrist and/or thumb is needed. Breathable mesh material promotes airflow and wicks moisture away from the skin for increased comfort. Medial thumb stay provides immobilization and thumb abduction. Metal palmar and plastic dorsal stays prevent flexion and extension. Three adjustable straps for increased stability. Tubular construction allows for quick and easy one-handed application.

PROLITE® AIRFLOW 8" WRIST SPLINT WITH ABDUCTED THUMB

One metal palmar stay maintains the wrist in the neutral position. The base is made of a unique, soft fleece-lined Lycra material. Easy, comfortable and inconspicuous to wear.

SOFT FORM® ELEGANT WRIST SUPPORT

CARPALMATE® WRIST SUPPORT
A lightweight wrist support designed to maintain the wrist in a neutral position while allowing full finger dexterity. The molded portion of the support prevents the wrist from dropping and prevents excess thumb and little finger opposition. Controlling these motions will prevent excess flexion of the wrist and finger flexor tendons, thus avoiding overuse. Overuse can cause tendon inflammation that puts pressure on the Median Nerve and is the cause of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Support is held in place by a wide elastic strap for comfortable compressive support at the wrist.
CARPALMATE® WRIST SUPPORT

THERALL™ JOINT WARMING WRIST SUPPORT
The Therall Joint Warming Wrist Support is constructed with four-way stretch material for light compression to counteract swelling. Material has ceramic fibers that insulate the joint by retaining heat and slowly reflecting it back into the joint and surrounding tissues. The result is therapeutic heat penetrated deep into the aching joint, muscles and surrounding tissues to provide long-lasting, soothing relief. Support promotes healing by increasing circulation around the tender joint and improves joint mobility to allow for faster return to daily activities. Can be used with Therall Body Warmer Patch (sold separately) for over 12 hours of soothing heat therapy.

THERALL™ JOINT WARMING WRIST SUPPORT

WRIST SUPPORT ELASTIC PULLOVER

The durable plastic base stabilizes the wrist and retains its shape even after continuous, extended use. Soft foam cover gives padding to the wrist and hand for comfort. Inner fabric wicks moisture away from the skin to preserve skin integrity. Includes two palmar rolls (1.5" and 1.75") to accommodate various levels of finger contracture or hand sizes and/or offer progressive extension of the fingers. Provent Sleep Apnea Therapy at Primo Medical Supplies in San Antonio

Provent is an FDA approved treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea which is clinically proven to be effective in reducing daytime sleepiness and nighttime snoring. Simple to use and extremely compact, Provent works with the user's own breathing to treat OSA.

Do you know someone who has untreated Sleep Apnea because they cannot adapt to CPAP therapy? Or have you ever wanted an easier way to travel and still be able to treat your sleep apnea? Provent is an option to treat OSA without using a machine and mask. Place the Provent MicroValve over each nostril to create airway pressure during exhalation and prevent the airway collapse found with OSA. In the morning, remove the Provent devices and dispose of them.

The Provent Starter Kit offers a unique "step up" process as an introduction to Provent therapy allowing time to become accustomed to therapy and give the best chance of success.

Is Provent Right For You?

• Newly diagnosed with OSA but not started treatment because the machine and mask were uncomfortable? Provent provides treatment for OSA using only a very small nasal device.
• Frustrated by traveling with a CPAP set up? Frequent travelers find that Provent is discrete and greatly lightens their load.
• Given up on CPAP therapy? Provent treats Sleep Apnea without the use of a CPAP machine and mask.
• Never found a nasal mask that worked or still suffering morning with red marks and pressure points? Provent touches only the area around nasal openings and has no straps or buckles.

Note: Provent requires a prescription. Discuss Provent with a physician to decide if its an option that may work in treating your OSA.

30 Day Starter Kit
Adjusting to any medical therapy takes time. The gradual step up program found in the 30 Day Starter Kit is the result of Ventus Medical conducting clinical studies with Provent. The Starter Kit slowly introduces the new user to breathing with Provent by increasing the resistance level and allowing time to become accustomed to the change in exhalation.

The Starter Kit includes three phases:
• Phase 1: Nights one and two - lowest resistance (Yellow background with Pink text)
• Phase 2: Nights three and four - middle level of resistance (Orange background with Yellow text)
• Phase 3: Night five and forward - therapeutic level of resistance (Light Blue background with Orange text)
The Quick Reference Card, Application Instructions and detailed Welcome brochure provide all the information needed to use Provent.

Features of Provent include:
• One Time Use Nasal Devices
• Starter Kit - Step Up Resistance Levels
• Travel Friendly
• Hypoallergenic Adhesive
• Easy to Use and Convenient
• Small, Discrete, Portable Pouches
• FDA Approved
• No Equipment Setup or Maintenance
• Suitable for Claustrophobia
• Proven Effective in Clinical Studies
• Treats Mild, Moderate and Severe OSA

How Provent Works
Provent is designed with a unique, patented MicroValve that is placed just inside each nostril. It is secured using hypoallergenic adhesive developed with Johnson & Johnson and is similar to a band aid. During exhalation the air is channeled through small openings creating pressure which keeps the airway open, much like the pressure delivered by a CPAP machine. During inhalation the valve opens to allow airflow into the body. Unlike CPAP treatment which increases airflow during both inhalation and exhalation, Provent increases pressure only during exhalation. Provent is powered by exhalation.

Travel Friendly
Traveling with a CPAP means carrying on the machine, mask, hose and extension cord and hoping that nothing is lost or broken during the security check and travel.
The small and simple design makes Provent ideal for travel. It can easily fit into a purse, pocket, shaving kit or carry on bag. Because Provent does not use electricity it eliminates the hotel room hunt for an outlet to plug in a machine. Some users elect to use Provent for travel and CPAP when at home.

Prescription
A prescription is required to make a purchase of Provent. The prescription should be written specifically for "Provent" or "Provent Therapy". The prescription can be sent in via email to primomedicals@gmail.com, by fax to 1-210-399-3561. A prescription for a CPAP or BiPAP cannot be used to purchase Provent. Speak with your physician about Provent Therapy.

Beginning Provent Sleep Apnea Therapy
A good first step is to watch the Provent Instructional video. It can be found on our YouTube channel. The adjustment period for using Provent Sleep Apnea treatment may vary from one person to another. Some people easily begin treatment while others experience a longer period of adjustment. It is suggested to apply Provent just before laying down to go to sleep. The new user will become accustomed to feeling resistance while breathing out through the nose. The three phases of the 30 Day Starter Kit provide an adequate adjustment period to get used to sleeping with the devices.
